Healthy Eating
Today I've eaten Oreos and coffee, a pulled pork sandwich and a coke, another pulled pork sandwich with a salad, sherbert, a few more Oreos, and then a large slice of pizza. This dear friends is atrocious. Here are some healthy tips I've come up with:
- Drink plenty of water.(unless contraindicated by certain health conditions) We have all heard this advice from health care professionals. Not only is it good for your body, it also helps decrease your appetite and is crucial for weight loss. I consider it one of the simplest yet most effective healthy weight controlling techniques. How exactly are we going to make sure we are doing this? Here are some ideas:
- Keep bottled water in your car. In the colder months, one can keep a 24 pack of water in her trunk so it is readily accessible and can be easily accessed instead of defaulting to Thorton's 89 cent fountain drinks.
- Buy a cute thermal bottle. If you don't favor the idea of carrying around bottled water and want to save money and the environment, invest in an $8 cup that you can keep on your counter and fill every day before you go to work or run errands. In the long run, it will save you money. If you buy a $1 coke daily in a month you will have spent $30. Also, you invested in the bottle, this will make you want to use it.
- Educate yourself on its importance. When one knows how important something is, she is more likely to passionately adhere to, or not do that particular action. For example: it is commonly known that washing hands after going to the bathroom is imperative to not spread germs, infection, and disease. We were taught to religiously adhere to this habit as young children and were taught that it is so important!
- Record your intake. If you are still having trouble consistently drinking a healthy amount of water, keep a food journal and record your intake with it.
2. Minimize crappy foods. Yeah... I don't need to elaborate on what that entails... we all know fast food, sweets, processed foods, foods high in salt, sodas, and white grains are all not healthy. We all know we really shouldn't put down some double cheese burgers on our lunch break or after college classes... but most of us do. Taco Bell is my weakness. How can we proactively start to change?
- Pack a healthy lunch the night before work. Many of us procrastinate getting up for work and don't have time to pack a lunch. I am the queen of the snooze button. If you are like me, packing a healthy lunch ahead of time will ensure you are eating a healthy lunch. This way the food choices are made while you are thinking with your mind and what would be nutritious and satisfy your hunger needs, rather than what would be satisfy your taste-buds.
- Don't go food shopping when your are hungry and tempted. If you are hungry, you will be extra tempted by the chips and Oreos. So, eat before you go shopping, so your mind can focus on what foods are good for your body.
- To be continued...
